Day 21 → A recipe

SNICKERDOODLE COOKIES

Dough:

1/2 cup each butter and shortening (or margarine), at room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Beat butter, shortening, sugar and eggs together until creamy. Add cream of tartar, baking soda and salt, then blend. Add flour and mix well. Chilling overnight is preferred; otherwise at least two hours

Topping:

3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Combine topping ingredients in small, shallow bowl. After chilling, shape dough into balls about 1 ½ inches in diameter. Drop dough balls into topping mixture and coat entire surface well. Place on ungreased baking sheets about 2 inches apart.

Bake in a 375°F degree oven for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand one minute and remove to cooling racks.

Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

People keep suggesting Olive and Forrest. Olive and Forrest Green. I don't think we'll be going with a pun name. )

My mom told me that she and my dad would take me to Outback because I mentioned craving a Bloomin' Onion about a year ago.

So now, of course, I'm craving one again.

GIVE ME A BLOOMIN' ONION
OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!

P.S. Please don't give me death.

Day 18 → Whatever tickles your fancy

As you probably know because of my INCESSANT DRONING about it, today is Project For Awesome day. The day was started by John Green. Here, let him explain it further...

So-o-o, this is what tickles my fancy. I need you guys to watch my video and rate it, comment on it and favorite it. And have your friends do the same. :D

Why do I care about Gilda's Club? Well, this was written to me in response to my $10 donation today:

Dear Sara,

Thank you for your gift of $10.00 to Gilda's Club Worldwide. Your gift enables Gilda's Club to make a difference in the lives of thousands of men, women and children living with cancer. It might be a child learning to express their feelings about a parent's cancer diagnosis. It might be a woman learning to love her body again after a cancer treatment. It might be a teenager learning to talk to their sibling who has cancer. It might be a parent learning to grieve the loss of a child. Across North America, your gift will enable Gilda's Club to help people living with cancer feel a little bit less alone and a little bit more hopeful for the future.

At Gilda's Club, we know that when there is cancer in the family we are all living with cancer. While medical care helps individuals fight the disease, people with cancer and their families are often left to deal with the equally urgent emotional and social needs. Gilda's Club helps people take that next step by learning how to live with cancer, whatever the outcome. Gilda's Club is also the only place where the entire family can join together to experience a community of support.

We provide our program entirely free of charge and rely entirely upon the generous donations from individuals, foundations and corporations.

Thank you for helping us move one step closer towards our goal that no one should face cancer alone.

THAT tickles my fancy more than anything.

P.S. Tara, I promise to do your meme tomorrow when there's not all this craziness going on! xoxo It could be... a talent of mine, if you will. ;)

That movie is on my Christmas list. XD It's still one of my 2009 favorites.

2009 favorites
(not 2009 items, but movies from 2009)

+ Watchmen
+ Zombieland
+ Inglourius Basterds (my pick for Best Picture, so far)
+ District 9
+ Star Trek
+ Away We Go
+ Up

I think that's it, so far.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Harry Potter too but I don't think it held up as well as these ones.

In honor of Halloween, I decided that I had to make a creepy video of "The Pillowman" by Martin McDonagh. It's from my favorite play and it really is perfect for Halloween, even though it is sad, too. I'm still waiting for Tim Burton to direct a film version of it. (This is the play I saw on Broadway when I met Billy Crudup and Jeff Goldblum afterwards, at the stage door. My advice for if you ever want to meet anyone famous at a gig, play, etc.: Find the stage door ahead of time and wait there when the show is over! It's only failed me once, and that was with Judi Dench. What are the odds of meeting Dame Judi Flippin' Dench outside a stage door? I should've known she would hide. XD This is the longest parenthetical thing I've ever done, I think. It's kind of fun. I guess this is a good time to mention that Billy Crudup's cheekbones could slice bread... at least in 2005, when I met him. And also, Jeff Goldblum is ♥, sweet ♥. Okay, end parenthesis.)

Thursday's video will be even spookier. It's hard to be spooky when the cats just yawn. XD

I've never recorded myself reading so much literature. It's kind of fun, but it also makes me that much more shy about other people on YouTube watching my videos. Ah well. It's worth it if you enjoy it. ♥

I watched Rocky Horror Picture Show today and it inspired me to make this icon and one other one. Am I the only person who finds Rocky adorable? (Not hot. Adorable.) His smile is too cute. I wish Peter Hinwood was like that for real.

First time I saw RHPS: Halloween, 1995. I was eight. The next day, I sang "Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me!" for my friends at recess. Then, as I grew, I went on to teach my friends the songs and perform it with them in backyards all over Virginia Beach. I was always Frank-N-Furter and Columbia. To this day, those friends remember our "performances" and the movie makes them think of me. ^_^

My legs really hurt now. XD I feel like I did a dance recital instead of just walking down a street. Maybe it's cos, oh yeah. I danced. A lot.

Nevermind.

The cutest part of today:

Little Girl (about five): You have a nice costume!
Me: Oh, thank you! So do you!
Little Girl: What are you dressed as?
Me: I'm a chinchilla.
Little Girl: Oh. A chin-chill-ah.
Me: *dies from cuteness*

The funniest part of today:

Alex (my cousin, over the phone): You marched in a Halloween parade?
Me: Yep! It was fun!
Alex: What was your costume?
Me: I was a chinchilla.
Alex: Oh... Okay... Dad, she was a chinchilla.
Me: It was fun!
Alex: I'm sure it is... Everyone loves to dress as... small rodents.
Me: Small rodents are my favorite.
Alex: I'll remember that... in case I ever... need to remember that.

XD My cousin loves me.

(He's three years younger than me, btw.)

I wrote this song in about 5 minutes. It's a "parody" of Hank Green's song, I just changed the words and modified some of the rhythms, really. And played it all on the ukulele. C chord. :)

I can't help feeling quite proud of it, actually. Even though it's also really nerdy of me.

I gave my hair red highlights. I'm thinking of dyeing it all red. It looks pretty cool when it's red and I've grown tired of brown. Originally, I was thinking purple but I don't want to EVER bleach my hair, so red it is!

This is only the beginning:

I should've filmed part of myself dyeing my hair. It looked pretty bloody. XD

+ Getting pretty frustrated over this whole economy-job situation. My parents are going to try to help. Part of me feels embarrassed that I need help, but another part of me wonders why it took so long for them to offer. I've only been looking for going on 6 months now.

+ Inspired by Hank & John Green, I'm striving to become a less irritated person... mainly by my sister. Most people do not annoy me. In fact, I'm a big people person. But I've felt lots of annoyance toward my sister lately and I want to stop. It doesn't change her and it makes me unhappy. So just take a deep breath and roll your eyes, but don't get mad.

+ I like making bullet point lists with plus signs.

+ Tonight, my parents and I saw Zombieland. Holy crap, that's a good movie. Go see it. Someone I loooooove is in it.

+ SNL was funnier tonight. Why wasn't Ryan Reynolds the host on the premiere?! Even Lady Gaga was amusing (tho I don't like her music... but her costumes are fun)!

+ Porcelain fountains!

+ I have a surprise for anyone who watches my vlog... You'll see tomorrow. ;)

Let's take two life-sized cardboard cut-outs of our bodies
and then pose them into sensual positions
We'll paint the wallpaper pattern onto our naked skin,
stand against the wallpaper and get off like chameleons

I will always ♥ this song. Always.

I meant to post this yesterday, but insaneness ensued shortly after I filmed it. Sorry.

the Conan injury clip, for those who missed it and are curious )

Right after I edited my vlog and posted it on YouTube, my mom called and came to get me with my grandma. I went over to my parents' house to chill with my grandparents for the last day before they headed to Ohio. I don't really want to go into detail, but some unpleasantness happened with my granddad. But it's always nice to see my grandma. She made up for it.

Well, then my sister (who had joined us after work) and I went home. About 30 minutes later, Yuki (our lil white cat) fell over next to me, holding a paw to her head and going all rigid. We rushed her to the animal hospital, trying not to freak out because it seemed like a heart or neurological problem. We stayed there for about two hours. Then we left her there over-night and came home, tired and freaked out.

Luckily, the vet thinks she might have gas pain that she was responding to. She's been throwing up and going rigid for a few minutes at a time, then acting fine. Her x-rays showed no signs of neurological or heart problems. Whew! She's on Pepcid now and she'll be coming home tonight and we'll be watching her like a hawk in case she has more episodes.

That was the most dramatic Tuesday I've had in a while. :-\
