Day 21 → A recipe

SNICKERDOODLE COOKIES

Dough:

1/2 cup each butter and shortening (or margarine), at room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Beat butter, shortening, sugar and eggs together until creamy. Add cream of tartar, baking soda and salt, then blend. Add flour and mix well. Chilling overnight is preferred; otherwise at least two hours

Topping:

3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Combine topping ingredients in small, shallow bowl. After chilling, shape dough into balls about 1 ½ inches in diameter. Drop dough balls into topping mixture and coat entire surface well. Place on ungreased baking sheets about 2 inches apart.

Bake in a 375°F degree oven for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand one minute and remove to cooling racks.

Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

Were you an honor roll student in school? I was sometimes. I kind of teetered between being on it, then off it, then on it, then off it. Consistency is not really mah thang... Actually, really, that's a lie. It so is. But some classes in school kicked my butt.

What are you most excited for next year? HAWAII. And hopefully having a nice job to give me money.

Why is your favorite color your favorite? Green is my favorite because it is the color of life and the color of awesome young adult authors.

1. Cheese and Dr. Pepper are my drugs of choice.
2. I'm an obsessive person. I have to make sure things are finished and just right before I can move on to something else. Like, for example, I always check my friends page after posting to see how my entry looks to my friends. XD
3. I have crazy, zany, obsessive enthusiasm over all kinds of things. For example, I'm in a role-playing game, right? I obsess over the 13 character "faces" that I use. My fellow players end up hearing about the new movies they're in or whatever. And I'm the same way with books. John Green said that extreme enthusiasm is the hallmark of being a nerd. Then call me a nerd! I'm proud of it!
4. My aunt and uncle (my dad's brother and sister) are both cops. My aunt's a detective in Lakewood, Washington and my uncle is an FBI guy. :) My dad is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who now works as a consultant at Booz Allen. They're all pretty awesome.
5. My sister is vegan and I am vegetarian. We disagree on a great many things. And we live together. Real life Odd Couple!
6. I have no problem playing chords on the ukulele. My problem is with strumming.
7. My favorite character on The Office is Andy Bernard. I used to watch with mild interest/amusement until he was added to the cast. I ♥ Ed Helms even though I have yet to even see him in much else (besides The Hangover!!!).

Wow, I got to 7 really quickly.

Uh, okay. This is embarrassing. I wrote this when I was 17, in high school. In a notebook, carried around from class to class. Several of my friends got to read it before it was put on my site. And they liked it, so maybe you will too. It's a Monkees fanfic. XD

The title comes from something I yelled out when learning to ride my bike. I went into the little space between the sidewalk and the grass and mixed "stop!" with "help!" Dad won't let me forget it. It still makes us laugh. :)

Paper Towns by John Green.

No, seriously. Here's why.

1. It's very funny without even trying. John Green writes the way he talks. Meaning that he's just an amusing person and he doesn't push jokes or TRY to make readers laugh. They just do.

2. It's very touching in parts, because John Green knows how to turn a phrase, my friends. He knows how to describe things in ways which not only help you imagine them, but also feel like you know the people, places and objects yourself. You can see the World's Largest Collection of Black Santas as though your own parents were collecting them. You even know Margo. Or at least a version of her.

3. Margo Roth Spiegelman is so interesting and complex that you might start to feel strong kinship to her and wish that she was your best friend.

4. There's all kinds of in-jokes that come out of reading it. Like, you've probably just begun to think about Black Santas.

5. Great White Wall of Cow.

6. OMNICTIONARY.com

7. Those are just some examples. I kind of fail at real lists. Sorry.

8. It is so beautiful. When I finished it, I stared, smiling, at the cover for ten minutes in my bed (at 4:30 in the morning) and kept repeating, "That was beautiful..." I've never read a young adult book like it before. Don't let "young adult" scare you. It's so much more than that.

Only one of my students came to the tutoring session today (I normally have three) but I couldn't blame parents for not wanting to drive through snow.

I finished my NaNoWriMo writing! The novel is far from ready to be read, but I've got over 50,000 words so I'm taking a break. XD Then I shall revise and maybe share. I'm debating whether or not I should share the rough rough rough draft, but I don't know if I could take the embarrassment. You know how that is...

My favorite song is so easy. I've been watching FOTC since Summer of 2007 (Father's Day, to be precise. That's the day it premiered.) One of the first things I did after watching the first episode was download a bunch of their songs.

Including "Jenny".

It quickly became a beloved song to me. I quote it a lot, with lots of different people, including FOTC fans, my dad, Kathy, Twin!Tara, etc. It's special. ^_^ My journal got its title from that song. And here, for those who STILL haven't seen it, it is...
